IKEA Dresser Makeover: How I Gave It a Vintage French Look

By Ana

I bought a couple of plain white IKEA dressers, but my heart was set on a vintage French dresser. My budget, though, was strictly IKEA. So I did my best to make them look a little like what my heart wanted.

My two tricks:

  • New knobs. I swapped the original ones for better-looking ones.
  • Self-adhesive prints in that French blue I always love.

This is my dresser today. I don’t have a “before” photo, but believe me, it was dull.

Never underestimate the power of a good-looking knob, right? And if you’re feeling artsy, go ahead and cut the flowers out of the adhesive paper more creatively than I did. I played it safe.

The adhesive paper used :

VaryStyle 17.7″x118″ Blue Grey Floral Peel and Stick Wallpaper Iris Flower at $18.68

My knob recommendations:

1. Ceramic Pumpkin Knobs in Blue Petal (set of 2) | $6.49
The budget pick. For about the price of a coffee, you get a pair of ceramic knobs in a lovely blue that goes perfectly with French-style makeovers.

2. Nena Flower Knobs (set of 2) | $24
These are my favorite of the bunch. Here’s a trick: wait for Anthropologie’s home accessories sale, like I did, and you can grab them for half price.

3. Everlee Knobs (set of 2) | $23.80
Beautiful, but a fair warning: they’re a little bigger than I expected. Check the measurements against your drawers before you order.
